This week, I decided to go into a little more detail about determining whether you need a bucket list. If you haven’t already, I would recommend first reading my article from last week, Do you need a bucket list? The article goes over three big questions you can ask yourself to find out if you need a bucket list and some ideas on how to build solid goals to put on your list.

There are many reasons you may have for not already building and living your bucket list. It can be as simple as laziness to having too many responsibilities to leave behind (family, work are the most common ones).

One thing I try to point out when people present these reasons is that you are setting yourself up for bigger problems in the future. From my years of experience, I’ve learned that people need to take some time for themselves and enjoy things they personally want to do. When you don’t give yourself the time you need, it begins to drain you and make you feel like life is mundane.

Often times, people who haven’t taken any time for themselves will find that they’re headed for a mid-life crisis. This type of crisis is one where a person feels like they’ve seen their best years go by and don’t have much to look forward to anymore. These types of events can be dangerous because people often start to do “crazy” things like buying their dream cars or quitting their jobs. While doing these things may sound like fun, the behavior is a result of the person feeling trapped in their life and lashing out. In many cases it results in divorce, bankruptcy and the destruction of friendships.

By building a bucket list, you can plan to do the things you want such as buying a car or quitting your job. However, since you’re planning them out, you’ll be doing these with the support of those around you and in a way that won’t cause you discomfort afterward. Having a list will allow you to feel youthful, confident and happy about where you are. Your friends and family will notice, and in turn they will also exhibit these feelings making this a win-win situation!

If you are serious about building your bucket list, please read some of the articles on this website and join our site for a FREE quick start guide that will help you begin building your bucket list. In order to build your list properly and get to the point of actually fulfilling your dreams, my book The Bucket List is a must-have.

A lot of people are familiar with the movie The Bucket List starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. The two men meet at a hospital after they are hit with illnesses. They quickly become friends and decide to live out their dreams through a bucket list.

So what is a bucket list? And how did I become so interested in them? Read on to find out.

Simply put, a bucket list is a list of things one wishes to do before they pass away. The term originates from the phrase “kicked the bucket” and has gained popularity among middle aged professionals who find themselves unhappy with their present state.

Why I Started Living My Bucket List

In my own life, the idea of a bucket list originates from the time my father became ill at the age of 50. Even though he was relatively young, health problems had begun to prevent him from doing some of the things he had always wanted to do. It was at this point that I decided I would like to live out my own dreams before it was too late. My wife and I began to travel the world and tried lots of fun activities. Eventually, I found that my goals were no longer fulfilling my real desires. This is when I developed the three questions mentioned in my last article. By testing all of my goals against those three questions, I realized some of my goals weren’t aligned with what I truly wanted. Gradually I made a more effective bucket list that I continue to follow each year.

When Should You Start?

Many people ask me if they should make a list or wait until they’re older. I always tell them “DO IT NOW!” because you never know when you could be hit with a life-changing situation where you can no longer do the things you love.

Often times, people feel trapped and hopeless after having worked for many years in the same job. A bucket list is a great way to not only motivate yourself to work harder and better, but to do things you’ve always dreamt about. It’s a way to make you look forward to something when you get home, or to give you a sense of pride in accomplishing a daring feat.

Ways To Get Additional Support

As you begin to develop your own bucket list, you should continue to commit to it and refine it so that you get the maximum benefit from living out your goals. As you learn more from these articles, you may find that your list isn’t as effective as you want it to be. However, it is imperative that you stick to it and make changes so that your motivation does not waver. As you start to complete items on your list, you will get a sense of pride and happiness that will surely improve the quality of your life and of those around you.

Hello!
My name is Ralf Gottfried and I’d like to welcome you to my website, Living Your Bucket List.

My goal is to teach you not only how to create a fulfilling and comprehensive bucket list, but on how to follow through and really get the results you’ve dreamt about.

You may already be familiar with a popular movie called “The Bucket List” starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. Many people learned about the concept of bucket lists through this movie and have already begun to achieve their hopes and aspirations.

My idea is that unlike the characters in the film, you shouldn’t wait until you’re at an old age or hit with a major illness before thinking about a bucket list. In fact, you can start building your list right now and seeing real results before you reach a point where it’s too late.

To get started with building your very own bucket list, please sign up on the right side of this page and fill out my FREE quick-start-guide. It’s a brief but effective way to get your thoughts down on paper so that you can start reaching for, and realizing your dreams.
